Ethno

Ethno Scotland: young multicultural music week; 26 July - 2nd August 2010

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

• are you an experienced folk musician?
• are you 18-25 years old?
• would you like to meet and learn from other young folk musicians of different cultural backgrounds?

This summer, Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF) is launching the very first Ethno Scotland music camp! This is a unique opportunity for young folk musicians to learn the musical styles of different cultures through a combination of participant-led workshops and jam sessions.

The group will also work creatively as an ensemble, with expert musical direction from Matija Solce (www.teatromatita.com) and Fernando Stern (www.myspace.com/nanostern). The week will end with a mini-tour, with performances at AIYF, Traquair Fair and in St Andrews.

Ethno Scotland is part of the international Ethno camps movement; a project of Jeunesses Musicales International (JMI, see www.jmi.net and http://ethno-world.org). Ethno camps currently take place annually in Sweden, France, Cyprus, Uganda, Croatia, Beliguim, Estonia, and Slovenia.

This first year we seek twenty participants. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee a place for everyone who applies.

The participation fee is £150/€170 and includes food, basic accommodation and all activities.

Ethno Sweden 2010 - Apply Now

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

Ethno Sweden welcomes musicians from all corners of the world to get on board!

Ethno is back this year and a whole bunch of countries will be blessed again with beautiful intercultural gatherings where music is the main language. Sweden is one of those countries, actually the pioneer, where everything started and now it’s ready to welcome participants to apply and get on board this unforgettable experience.

To participate at Ethno you have to be between 17 (born -93) and 25 years old.
Participation fee for non-Nordic participants is 160 Euro for Ethno 2010. The fee includes workshops, excursions, lodging, all meals and free ride on the transfer bus between Arlanda/Stockholm Airport and Ethno in Rättvik.

Ethno participants from developing countries may apply for a scholarship for Ethno.

When picking out participants we first of all look at those who apply early. The diversity of nationalities and a good blend of musicians are also priorities when planning the camp.

If you have attended Ethno Sweden for two consecutive years you might have to stand back for someone new, otherwise welcome to Ethno Sweden.
